JCJ and I ended up at a different site today. Eventually. We started, as usual, at Fairy Bower which was warm and clear and blue and you can read all about that in several earlier posts. But today was also very flat and JCJ suggested we make our way across Cabbage Tree bay to the point of the reef that juts out from Shelly Beach. So we did.Once again and like several weeks ago the water was stupendously blue and fa warmer than we'd expect. We reckon it was 21 degrees on the surface. Actual vis would have been, I don't know, approaching 20m? It was certainly clear enough for me to spot the motorbike (is that classed as a wreck?) that, from the surface, I noted was far closer to shore than I thought it was. When we got to the rocky reef we stopped, looked at each other and pretty well burst out laughing at how ridiculously good conditions were.
We made our way over the top of the reef to see what it looked like on the outside. Clear and blue, naturally enough. Fewer fish on the outside, and we spent most of the time back over the reef amongst a large school of anchovy, or baitfish. The wisdom of spending a dive in sharky waters amongst a school of baitfish...nah, these sharks are harmless. On that...as we approached the end of the dive, back over at the Bower, JCJ saw a couple of the sharks getting agro with a couple of squid that were about shark size, and equally agro. I missed that, only seeing a big cloud of squid ink.
On the way back we passed over the motorbike and I clicked a couple more shots as a group of newbie divers took a look at it - all of them failing to notice me, tank free, hovering the other side of the bike with a camera. Amused, we made our way back.
Two hours in th water, still toasty warm, but a bit hungry.
