Saturday 3rd May saw me up at 05:30 to pick up Vince and head down south to the Captian Cook National Park on the southern side of Botany Bay where we would be doing The Leap. The weekend forecast was for winds increasing throught Saturday and then rain on Sunday, so an early start on the incoming tide could see us do a nice semi-drift into the bay. Rain in the week did not inspire us, but the water was a reasonable 18 degrees and the vis averaged about 8m horizontal with the surface ripples visiable from 22m, so we could not complain. The incoming tide gave us a little push too. Highlights were a large giant cuttlefish and a big long snout boarfish, blue groper that hung around us like dogs on leashes, plenty of weedy sea dragons and the usual great sponge life, nudibranchs and schooling fish. Low point was my exit - amateur hour - but luckily no one spotted it. A great way to start the weekend, and back home by 10:30.
